DENVER, CO — The Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA) today announced its recommendations for the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education: Amy Klein Molk for the at-large seat and Dr. DJ Torres for the District 3 seat.
“As educators who work closely with students and families every day, we deeply understand what all students need to truly thrive—safe, welcoming, and fully-resourced schools,” said Rob Gould, special education teacher and DCTA president.
“We’re proud to recommend leaders who will put students at the center of their decisions, support the dedicated staff who show up every day, and work to ensure every neighborhood school is safe, welcoming, and fully resourced. Denver’s educators are ready for a new direction of leadership that listens to communities and delivers bold and impactful changes for our students.”
Amy Klein Molk is a proud DPS parent and former paraprofessional in the district. She studied public policy with a focus on education and later founded an ed-tech company that brought live, interactive learning to hundreds of thousands of students from diverse backgrounds. Amy is running for the Denver School Board to rebuild trust, strengthen neighborhood schools, and ensure every student feels safe, seen, and prepared for their future.
“I’m proud to support Amy because I’ve seen firsthand how much cares about students and the people who support them,” said Erica Atchison, special education teacher and representative of the DCTA fund. ”She’s worked in our classrooms, supporting students with the highest needs, and she deeply understands that helping every learner thrive starts with empowering the educators who show up for them every day.”
Dr. DJ Torres is a DPS dad and former district special educator who also served in central administration. There, he helped implement equity-centered policies like the Know Justice, Know Peace resolution, the Black Excellence Resolution, and the early phases of the La Raza Report. Torres currently serves as president of his child’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC), where he works to elevate parent voices in budget decisions and support newcomer families. He additionally works as a vice president at the Sandy Hook Promise, leading strategy for school violence prevention.
“DJ has dedicated his career to students as a classroom educator, a champion for equity and inclusion, an involved parent, and a leader in nationwide anti-violence and school safety initiatives,” said Alex Nelson, a DPS educator and member of the DCTA Fund. “I am proud to support his candidacy because of his deep understanding of our school communities and his unwavering commitment to creating safe, equity-focused school environments where students and educators can thrive.”
The DCTA Fund is made up of elected and appointed DCTA members. This body of educators is responsible for interviewing political candidates and making recommendations to DCTA members on candidates and ballot measures appearing on the Denver ballot.
With the announcement of these endorsements, DCTA is encouraging Denver voters to stand with educators and support their endorsed candidates.
“Amy and DJ are the leaders educators trust to move this district forward,” said Rob Gould, special education teacher and DCTA president. “We invite families, community members, and public education supporters to join us in supporting experienced and bold new leadership for the DPS School Board.”
