DENVER, CO – Rob Gould, special education teacher and president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA) released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s orders to convert all gender bathrooms in Denver Public School’s (DPS):
“As educators, we have a responsibility to ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and welcomed in our schools—regardless of their background, race, zip code, or gender identity. Every student deserves to be respected for who they are and to have equitable access to the facilities, resources, and support necessary for their success and well-being.
“But once again, Donald Trump and his allies are attacking our students and public schools to score political points. They’re doing this by spreading false narratives about our students and attempting to divide our communities to distract us from their real agenda of dismantling our public education system. An administration that truly cared about students would invest in the department that protects their rights and strengthens public schools. Instead, they are tearing it down and using kids as pawns in their political games.
Research shows that LGBTQ+-inclusive policies support student well-being, reduce bullying, and enhance academic performance. Instead of engaging in divisive tactics from the current administration, we remain focused on supporting students’ learning, physical health, and mental well-being. Educators will continue advocating for expanded resources in our schools, not the elimination of the supports our students need and deserve.”
