DENVER, CO — The Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA), today announced its endorsement of Monica Hunter for the Denver Public Schools Board of Education District 4 seat.
“As educators who work closely with students and families every day, we deeply understand what all students need to truly thrive—safe, welcoming, and fully-resourced schools,” said Rob Gould, special education teacher and DCTA president.
“We’re proud to support Monica because she understands the importance of investing in the learning conditions of students, which are the working conditions of educators. We trust that Monica will put students at the center of every decision she makes, especially during a time where both Colorado and Denver are facing major budget deficits. We need a bold leader who will fight to protect our neighborhood schools, and ensure that resources go where they’re needed most: directly to students and educators.”
Monica Hunter is deeply invested in the DPS community, as a DPS graduate, current parent to DPS students in the Far Northeast, and a former DPS teacher & DCTA member. She is running for the DPS Board of Education to close literacy and academic gaps by pushing for smaller class sizes, targeted small-group instruction, and a commitment to the science of reading so every child receives the time, attention, and resources they need to thrive.
“As an educator, I am proud to support Monica because she is backed by the people who know our schools best: educators, families, and community members, not corporate-backed or billionaire funded private interest groups,” said Patrick Jiner, middle-school social studies teacher and representative of the DCTA fund.
“Monica is a mom, educator, and advocate, who knows how to listen and lead. She has fought for mental health resources, school funding, racial justice, and inclusion, and she will fight just as hard for our students as a director on the DPS Board.”
The DCTA Fund is made up of elected and appointed DCTA members. This body of educators is responsible for interviewing political candidates and making recommendations to DCTA members on candidates and ballot measures appearing on the Denver ballot.
With the announcement of our endorsement , DCTA is encouraging Denver voters to stand with educators and support their endorsed candidates: Monica Hunter (District 4), Amy Klein Molk (At-Large), and Dr. DJ Torres (District 3).
“Our endorsed candidates, Monica, Amy, and DJ are the leaders educators trust to move this district forward,” said Rob Gould, special education teacher and DCTA president. “We invite families, community members, and public education supporters to join us in electing experienced and bold new leadership for the DPS School Board,” said Rob Gould, special education teacher and DCTA President.
