The Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA) Endorses Denver Ballot Measure “YES on 2O”
DENVER (Mar. 9, 2023) — The Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA) endorses the YES on 2O ballot measure, aimed at addressing affordable housing. DCTA joins a coalition of nearly three dozen nonprofits, including Habitat for Humanity and Brothers Redevelopment. The following statement can be attributed to Rob Gould, special education teacher and president of DCTA:
“Denver needs affordable housing for educators and the families that we serve,” said Rob Gould, special education teacher and president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association. That is why we are proud to support YES on 2O.
“As educators, we understand the critical role that housing plays in the success of our students and their families. Supporting this measure is an obvious choice because we are confident that converting the Park Hill golf course into affordable housing and park space will support some of our most vulnerable residents, including many DPS families. Several schools in the Park Hill area are facing challenges with low enrollment, and we hope this will help sustain and support our schools.
“This initiative will double the number of affordable housing available as compared to other projects. We believe that affordable housing should be tripled or quadrupled in any new project. Several schools in the area are facing challenges with low enrollment, and we hope this will help sustain and support our schools into the future.
“We urge all Denver residents to join us in supporting the YES on 2O ballot measure to help create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.”
The proposal to convert the closed golf course would result in at least 2,500 new homes, one-quarter of which are required to be permanently affordable, and the donation of 100 acres of land back to the City of Denver for a new regional park.
