Last week, your DCTA Bargaining Team continued to push for meaningful improvements to class size, workload, and caseload. Educators filled the room and shared powerful stories about the realities of overcrowded classrooms—including one educator who described teaching more than 30 kindergarteners in a space so packed, students had to sit on the floor and work independently.
When our team asked the district directly: If we found a path forward, would you commit to reducing class sizes? The district once again offered no solutions. Their only response was a vague commitment to a “conversation.”
As has become routine, DPS struck down our proposals without offering meaningful alternatives, including removing language that protects reproductive and LGBTQ healthcare.
And now, during Teacher Appreciation Week, the district has declared impasse. That means DPS believes both sides have exhausted good faith efforts to reach a settlement—even though they’ve barely engaged in real negotiations at the table.
